The Camp Dodge Pool Pavilion Complex projects included rehabilitation of the Historic Pool House, Concession Stand, and highlights the original pool rim. New features and amenities were also added to the complex including a reviewing stand, seating area, and expanded parking areas. The renovated and restored Pool Complex support the current and future operational needs of the Iowa Army National Guard (IAARNG).

The renovation of the Historic Pool House included restoration of the exterior envelope and adaptive reuse of the building interior from former locker room facilities into a new space for conferences and special events. The event space extends from the interior out onto the front porch of the Pool House and a large paved area including a water feature that recalls the Complex’s historic function as a community pool. The Concession Stand was renovated and returned to its origins as an open-air structure providing space for cooking and serving food. A large patio adjacent to the Concession Stand provides space for gathering and dining, and it connects the building to the pool perimeter walkway.

The Historic Pool Pavilion Complex rehabilitation from a swimming and training facility into a multi-functional campus has preserved historically significant structures, features, materials, and spatial relationships of the site will providing adaptable spaces for current and future functions. The improvements create a cohesive campus that tells the story of its rich history while meeting the IAARNG’s needs for multi-functional training facilities, event spaces, and even public entertainment opportunities: the Adjutant General’s Concert Series is held at the Pool House Complex each summer.
