Client Need:

ISU Dining Services and their Branding and Interior Design consultants had a vision for the renovation of the Union Drive Marketplace to provide exciting updates to the dining facility and mezzanine space. These spaces are significant as they are used to host all prospective students during their campus visits and the intent is for them to make a very favorable impression on these guests. There was not much time available to design a project that could be bid and built in their very narrow construction window. ISU contracted BBS Architects | Engineers under our existing Indefinite Scope Contract to quickly commence design services.

BBS Approach:

BBS worked closely with ISU Dining, Fathom (Interior Design Consultant), and PUSH (Branding Consultant) to provide schematic designs and cost estimates recognizing their vision for the Night, Mezzanine, and Heritage spaces of the facility. The design and construction of the project has been phased over multiple summers to allow work to be completed when the facility is not serving students. 

Solution:

BBS conducted thorough site investigation and worked closely with ISU Dining’s Interior Design and branding consultants to produce biddable construction documents. The completed portions of the project have brought a new energy and excitement to the facility, which ISU Dining anticipates will lead to more students choosing to dine on campus. The remaining portions of the project are in the design phase and are scheduled to be completed starting in Summer 2022.
