Client Need: After 10 years we decided we needed an upgrade in our office to better represent our working style and current staff. The centralized core divided the engineering department and architectural department making it difficult for collaboration; the tinted single pane windows allowed little light into the space while offering no insulation. Several small meeting spaces were set up for collaborative meetings but were rarely used.
BBS Approach: The tenant space on ground level of 219 offered a naturally lit space with high ceilings and an open floor plan. By consolidating our past meeting areas into one private conference room and one open multi-use space we were able to move from a larger floor plan to a smaller one. The engineering and architectural departments are connected in an open office layout making interoffice collaboration easier. The Materials Library is organized in several shelves with an open table for layout space and material boards. Tack-able wall space allows a space for displaying finished work, sketches, process drawings and photos, or material boards.
Project Results:
- Connectivity between architects and engineers
- Street Presence
- Multi-use open collaboration meeting areas
- Natural lighting
- Efficient and well lit library and layout space
