Client Need:

BBS worked closely with the EMC facility team to renovate the 16^th floor of their 700 Walnut building into the new EMC executive suite after being occupied by another tenant. Since returning to the office after covid, it has been a goal of EMCs to get all staff moved into the 700 Walnut building from their smaller west building. Goals for this space include bringing more natural light into their conferencing spaces, incorporating more color into the space with elements that are easily changed out, and creating an experience that allows for a positive work culture.

BBS Approach:

BBS worked closely with the EMC facility team to create a workplace that evokes the key values of the recently rebranded EMC - “Making insurance human”. BBS explored multiple design options and eventually developed two concepts for the floor. One concept relied on traditional straight lines and timeless elegance and the other incorporated soft curves and vibrant colors to emphasize an approachable yet sophisticated work environment. The curve concept was selected to allow the relationship between architectural softness and brand identity to be celebrated while embracing a calming, human-centered approach supporting the company’s purpose-driven, tech-forward mission. The executive suite is designed to be approachable, adaptable, and reflective of a company that values people as much as performance.

Project Results:

The workspace centers on blending high-end corporate functionality with the warmth of mid-century hospitality. The project is defined by a rhythmic use of curvilinear forms—seen in the arched openings, circular lighting, and curved furniture—which soften the professional environment and encourage a fluid movement of ideas. The interior color palette uses a sophisticated neutral base of warm walnut, black, and soft gray tones to establish an executive sense. This is intentionally disrupted by the pops of color incorporated throughout the space within the wall coverings, furniture, and accessories to evoke a sense of place with a vibrant visual pulse.
